Day 16 - off the beaten (PCP) track... grandma passed away
It's been a few days since we've blogged our updated anything. Wei's grandmother just passed away earlier this week. Was pretty sudden, so had to drop everything and go off to Malaysia. Been keeping up with the exercise, and weighing food, but have had to eat vegetarian food given to me for this week as a result of our tradition, which has thrown things off the diet to a T, but have been trying to keep things as close as possible. Exercise still happening daily though.

Day 12 - Hungry...
Reading all the blogs, it seems everyone seems quite happy with the amount of food we're eating. For some reason Greenie and I have been left feeling hungry once or twice a day. Feeling pretty tired too... According to my scales I've also gone from ~64kg down to ~62kg in the last few days since we started the regimented diet, whilst fat has gone from 18.9% to 20.6%, muscle from 30kg to 28.5kg... I know these weights aren't super accurate with all these stats, but we've been weighing ourselves at the same time every day (as soon as we wake up) butt naked, and as a relative indicator, these scales should be able to give some direction. Wondering if I'm actually getting enough food here...

Day 9 - exercise done; food prepped till dinner
Preparing food is taking a lot longer than we'd like it to. It's OK at the moment, since it's a public holiday, which means we have time to play around with it, and also because Wei's not working at the moment, it means he can spend a bit more time on it too, but we gotta work out a much more efficient system before May when we're both working again.
This morning was a bit faster than yesterday. We prepared all our morning and after snacks as well as lunch whilst munching on breakfast after completing our workout. We're going out to do more wedding stuff today so we've packed it all in lunchboxes and have a backpack. Feels like elementary school! haha...
One larger discrepancy we did notice between our meals last night though was that Wei gets 90g of carbs whereas Greenie only gets 50g - Wei almost double! Here's a picture of Greenie's pasta last night, with salsa and grilled chicken. She had practically no pasta with all that salsa and chicken. haha...

Day 8 - First diet meal; hiccups on execution
This morning's breakfast was the first diet meal we've had so far. Very exciting! Our breakfasts' were as follows:
Greenie
Carbs-70g Veg-120g Protein-1egg 200ml milk
Wei
Carbs-100g Veg-140g Protein-1egg 250ml milk
Hrmm... looks similar enough except Wei gets to eat more (^^). Was so excited about having our first regimented meal and putting our fancy new scale to good use, that totally forgot about the logistics of the whole breakfast.
The egg was easy, so we boiled that, measured and drank the milk and then steamed some okra for the veges. Only after we had finished consuming this did we realise that the rice was going to be pretty tasteless without any other condiments.
So to season, ground up some chilli and ginger, and put a tiny dollop of that in to mix with the rice. Perhaps a few grams over on the veges now (can we consider chilli and ginger veges?) But nothing to break the grand plan (I hope!)
Update:
Phew! GT & I just finished our day 8 exercises. A lot more than first week! We were going for our morning snack to celebrate (130g of fruit for GT and 160g for me), and so we cut up our fruit, GT picking the jackfruit. cherry tomatoes orange and strawberries - a PLENTIFUL variety. I daftly decided to go for apple. The stupid apple weighed a TONNE! (well, not really a tonne, but more than 300g). It was totally eating up my fruit weight quota! In the end I chopped half the apple, leaving the rest for the afternoon, and added ONE strawberry... *sigh~

Day 7 - Jump rope day
Got up early with GT this morning, and we pumped out 500 jump ropes. GT's getting pretty good at jump rope now, and really picking up the pace. I'm surprised how quickly she can finish the sets, but think it's really good work on her part. Will hopefully make it less painful going forward!
After finishing jump rope with GT, headed over to do some rope jumping with Yeeman, as we were talking about different skipping techniques, and how she was running out of breath quite quickly. Yeeman has superb skipping technique, but jumps with both feet, which I find very tiring. I find easier to hop from foot-to-foot. We did our 15 minutes of skipping - the last few minutes we just spend jogging on the spot, as quickly as we would've skipped. Light exercise which can be done consistently, but enough to break out a light sweat if done over 5-10 minutes. Weather in Hong Kong was warm earlier this week, but it's cooled down in the past few days which has made it really pleasant to do early morning exercise.
So tomorrow's the real deal with more exercise and new diet! I'm so thankful that our cycles start on Fridays, which give us Friday evening to adjust in case we don't have enough time on the morning, and I'm doubly thankful that tomorrow is a public holiday so we can work on sorting out the food too!

Day 6 - Pull-up bar in place
So it's taken me a while to put the pull-up bar in place considering that I bought it last weekend. I scoured around the house, and finally found a place in the kitchen, where I thought I could put it up without damaging the walls or any door frames...
Here it is hanging above the kitchen door, happily above the fridge. ^^
Today (or perhaps tomorrow), will be the last day of our "half food" diet before the real diet starts, so GT and I have decided to have some wine tonight. Having pasta for dinner.

Day 3 - Skewers for dinner last night
Just a really quick post - we did a lot of wedding stuff yesterday, trying on Wei's dinner suit, and going to the wedding exhibition in Kowloon. After that we went home and perpared one of our favourite dinners - skewers!
We tried to keep it healthy, using fresh ingredients and either BBQ everything, except the edamame beans, which were boiled and lightly salted.
Pictures!
Skewered okra, lamb with rosemary and lime and chicken with chilli yum!

Day 2 - Exercise done; Greenie can't lift her arms...
So I'll kick off this blog for Greenie, but it's really hers. We just did the exercises this morning. Skipping was definitely a lot shorter than yesterday - we discovered Greenie may have shortened her rope a bit too much, but when we brought it back out a bit she was getting more consistent skips coming through... I think the big killer though has been for Greenie T (GT)'s push ups. Her arms are not quite strong enough yet, and she's struggling with doing proper push-ups. Currently she's in the shower trying to reach her head with the towel, but struggling to lift her arms!
We began originally with pushups on her knees, but she's decided that she wants to go all out and do proper ones, so I've been helping support her upper body a bit whilst she has done push ups on a her toes. A brave effort!
Now we're off to make us some breakfast. She'll buy the coffee and I'll go grab sausages and tomatoes from the supermarket - we've already got egg and toast at home. Not the healthiest of breakfasts, I know but hey might as well enjoy it whilst we can; albeit half-portions.
Oh, we also found a chin-up bar yesterday. I spent a few hours trawling thru all the sports stores in Causeway Bay yesterday trying to source one. Finally found one in First Boxing for HK$435. It was their last one, but they have more in Mongkok if people were looking to buy. Call them up, and they'll get it brought over to the Causeway Bay store for you next day - supports up to 115kg.
Here's a pic:
Hello - is Greenie taking over here....
we end up deciding to go get some breakfast instead of cooking cuz we both were starving!
we ordered a full breakfast (with sausage, ham, tomato, mushroom, egg & toast) and split the portion in half, here's the pictures...
the cappuccino was complimentary and of coz we share it too!
I'm not hungry now but at the same time didn't feel like I've eaten much - I think i'll get hungry again very soon....

Day 1 - 0 down 90 to go...
So, today is the first day of our PCP. I woke up pretty excited this morning to get the whole thing going, still somewhat unbelieving that it had all begun. First emails only began coming in late last night, and for some reason, I thought there'd be a feeling of transformation. I guess it doesn't happen overnight, but the more we get into the project, I'm sure the deeper this realisation will sink in.
Woke up early this morning around 5am from excitement of it all. Setup camera to take our photos on Day 1. Was debating for a very long time as to whether to setup the camera exactly the same way every time we take the photo, or just take it however. After all it's about our body changes - not the background. Anyways, played around with that for a very long time before finally having what I considered an OK setup, taking notes as to how I set the camera where. Took my photos and went to wake a sleepy Greenie from her sleep at 6am.
Not working at the moment, so we can wake up a bit earlier, but when I start again next month, we'll probably have to start getting up around 5am.. we've decided to do the exercise every morning before work, because we know that it's likely the only way we'll be able to commit to doing the exercise every day.
We bought a fancy new scale the other day. It's tiny, but it tells you your weight, fat % bone weight, muscle weight etc etc... These things are pretty sensitive, but Greenie and I have decided to weigh ourselves everyday, first thing when we wake up to try and keep the results consistent. We'll plot the results, and hopefully over time we'll see a nice trend coming through thanks to PCP. ^^
Checked our weight on the fancy new scale and took her photos too, then off to skipping! Greenie's pretty good at skipping, but does the double jump per skip, where she puts a mini-hop in between. I've been trying to teach her how to skip with single jumps recently, but it's been difficult. She's started to make some wonderful progress today though, and I think is getting the hang of it. Hopefully she can become super efficient at doing single-hop skipping really soon!
With all the skipping practice, we didn't have enough time this morning to do the rest of the workout, so we've saved that for tonight.
I had two 叉燒包 (char siu bao) for breakfast this morning - Greenie had one. Greenie always brings home awesome food from work, because they have luncheons all the time and have leftovers. She had actually brought five bao home, and I was going to eat four of them (I steamed all five), but then thought about the eat-half diet, and thought that realistically I wouldn't eat eight for breakfast... (or would I? :D )
Bye bye char siu bao... :(((
